Each pair of these elegant tapers has been dipped by a steady hand at least 20 times into vats of naturally filtered, molten wax. This time-honored process, combining the most precious of candle waxes with skilled craftsmanship, creates long, even burning tapers. The wicks are made from 100% cotton and contain no lead or metal.
Most of the beeswax used is collected from Northwest beekeepers, including British Columbia. The crops in this region rank lowest in exposure to pesticides in North America and is the highest quality beeswax available. As Big Dipper has grown, they have had to expand their wax resources outside of the North American channel and are exploring global wax sourcing. They are actively pursuing creating fair trade partnerships with beekeepers in several foreign countries, and are currently sourcing about 25% of their wax globally. They hand select the wax and run extensive testing to insure it is up to our high quality standards.
The colored beeswax candles are dyed with eco-friendly dyes that do not contain hazardous solvents or additives such as naphtha or naphthalene. The dyes are never tested on animals. All Big Dipper candles are handmade, and the beeswax is never 100% consistent in shade, so there may be variations in color.
